Dear Telecentre Friends

It’s my pleasure to share you a vital topic which , I do believe may open a vast area of discussion and exchange of ideas.

I intend to put forward the above mentioned topic" Promoting women ability to use ICT" For the following reasons. There is an increasing interest in women promotion all over the world especially in MENA region. Another, It’s one of the main targets in Salamieh Community Telecentre bridge the gap between women and man and digital divide. And I would like to discussion about subject for describe ways in which women have been able to use ICT and support individual women, by use the computer applications and access Internet for self-expression and for building connections in development society.

I think networking can also enable women’s organizations to mobilize international public opinion against discriminatory and unjust actions at local levels, in Syrian society and Arab region and MENA societies.

I will ask this question?

Can we build maximize the women’s capacities in ICT field. I think Several organizations are building the capacities of girls and women to make new ICTs accessible and useful to them. At one level, girls and women are being provided with general training in ICTs for ICT-related jobs, more over, women in business, women entrepreneurs, women in farmers and women in the professions are systematically being supported for skill enhancement, career growth, and greater work efficiency. Targeting women in situations where their access to ICTs is limited is a necessary and useful way to ensure that they are equal beneficiaries of technology. In Syria, in conjunction with the The Syrian Ministry of communication and technology, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has opened many communities telecentres in urban and rural areas – Reefnet Networking , www.reefnet.gov.sy – the first in a series of computer training centres targeted towards women and youth and disabilities. The first courses offered by the telecentres will teach the bases of computer access to websites and basic accounting to outreach training testing the women on high training level such as ICDL skills and get certificates. Today, ICTs & internet are used extensively by women groups for information dissemination. New ICTs can strengthen these media strategies. Community access points such as telecentres can be a simple tool for conveying information to women that supports their social and political empowerment. ICTs must be amplifiers of women’s to teach and widen perspectives and can provide spaces for diverse, bottom-up, and low-cost communication. They can amplify women’s learning, and help to publicize women’s experiences and perspectives. The project of gender justice requires that mainstream spaces be infused with new worldviews that derive from women’s own experiences and that challenge, qualify, or expand accepted.

I would welcome your highly appreciated opinion , looking forward to hearing you so soon. Nabil Eid ICT4D – Syria Salamieh Community Telecentre Tel:963-33832360 Fax:963-33832361 http://www.reefnet.gov.sy http://www.caihand.com
