Emergent technologies and shifting legal frameworks are evolving both opportunities and threats for citizens and communities in a post-9/11 world. As policy frameworks in the Philippines and in Asia are being developed in the areas of data privacy, state access to personal information, cybercrime/cybersecurity, and freedom of information, this forum seeks to locate a public interest perspective that will protect citizens and communities from increasingly problematic surveillance societies.
