Human rights defenders, including activists working on gender and sexual rights, are increasingly experiencing technology-related human rights violations. As a response to these challenges, APC is carrying out an internet rights training exchange in Jakarta, the first in a series of capacity-building activities as part of its APC IMPACT project.

IRTX-Jakarta is an interactive training exchange that will take place between 29 May and 2 June. It will build on the knowledge and experience of participants to increase the understanding of human rights defenders, civil society organisations and internet activists of the linkages between the internet and human rights. It is an opportunity to gain knowledge of strategies and tools that can support efforts to influence policy, as well as responses to threats and violations of human rights online.

APC IMPACT – Networking for freedom online and offline: Protecting freedom of expression, association and information on the internet in India, Malaysia and Pakistan” is a project funded by the European Union programme “Enhancing respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms where they are most at risk and supporting Human Rights Defenders”. Additional funding is provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS).
